THROGGS NECK, NY – Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) scored five goals in the first 16:36 of the game, as the Maritime College women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 11-1 halftime lead over DeSales on Saturday evening. She ended up with seven tallies and added an assist to keep the Privateers (4-0) undefeated with a 17-7 victory over the Bulldogs (4-3) at Reinhart Field.
The Privateers held a 6-0 advantage after one quarter, then recorded five unanswered goals after DeSales got on the board early in the second period. The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the second half, but Maritime responded with two tallies in a minute and a half to make it 13-2. It was 14-4 after three quarters and the teams played an even fourth quarter, with Lesiewicz notching her seventh goal of the game to cap the scoring in the 17-7 Maritime triumph.
In addition to her seven goals, Lesiewicz contributed four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Mackenzie Fabiani (Bayport, NY) had a hat trick of her own, and she added two assists, while
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY) notched three goals and an assist.
Sara Wright (East Islip, NY) posted five points on two goals and three assists to go along with three draw controls and a team-high five ground balls.
Tori Gay (Whiteford, MD) paced the Privateers with five draw controls, and
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) registered three draw controls. Goalkeeper
Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) (4-0) made five saves before giving way to
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NJ).
Meagan Landers and Tess Rodgers had two goals apiece for DeSales. Rodgers also controlled five draws. Michaela Regan (4-3) was credited with 10 saves and led the Bulldogs with four ground balls. As a team, DeSales picked up just eight ground balls in the contest.
Maritime (0-0 Skyline) begins conference play by hosting Mount St. Vincent (2-1, 0-0 Skyline) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The contest was originally scheduled for March 9, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
