Maritime Defeated at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, CT – After opening the season with five straight home games, the Maritime College men's lacrosse team hit the road for the first time in 2022 on Wednesday night.  The Privateers (2-4) were unable to come away with a victory, however, as Coast Guard (3-2) notched an 18-7 victory at Cadet Memorial Field.

Maritime got on the board first when Kyle Orton (Lewes, DE) found the back of the net less than a minute into the game, but Coast Guard responded with eight consecutive tallies to take an 8-1 lead.  Orton scored again late in the quarter to pull the Privateers within 8-2.  Coast Guard extended its advantage to 14-5 at halftime, then outscored Maritime 4-2 in the second half to close out the 18-7 win.

Orton and John Killcommons (Garden City, NY) both recorded two goals for the Privateers.  Steven Pinto (Oakdale, NY) also tallied two points with a pair of assists.  Rob Tracy (Smithtown, NY), meanwhile, picked up a team-high seven ground balls.  Jack Daresta (Massapequa, NY) (2-4) got the start in goal and took the loss.  Michael Monahan (Ronkonkoma, NY) played the final 30 minutes in net and made eight saves.

For Coast Guard, Caleb Holdridge led the way with four goals and four assists.  Nate Gee added three goals and two assists for the Bears.  Logan Tobias corralled eight ground balls and John Bragaw caused four turnovers.  Goalkeeper Dan Lucas (3-2) was credited with 12 saves in the victory.

On Saturday, the Privateers continue their five-game road trip with a 12 p.m. visit to Stockton (2-2).
