THROGGS NECK, NY – The goals came early and often for the Maritime College women's lacrosse team on Saturday.  The Privateers (1-0) led 6-0 after just five minutes and 13-0 at halftime en route to a dominant 19-2 triumph over Wilkes (0-3) in the season opener at Reinhart Field.  Seven different Maritime players scored multiple times in the victory.
Maritime got on the board just a minute into the game when 
Jenna Lesiewicz (Wading River, NY) connected with 
Tori Gay (Whiteford, MD).  
Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) scored 46 seconds later, followed by tallies from 
Gabrielle Nicolosi (West Islip, NY), 
Sara Wright (East Islip, NY) and Lesiewicz twice.
It was 9-0 at the end of the first quarter, as Maritime outshot Wilkes 14-0 in the opening period.  After the Privateers extended their advantage to 13-0 at the break, the Colonels scored their only two goals of the game early in the third quarter.  However, 
Mackenzie Fabiani (Bayport, NY) responded with a pair of tallies less than two minutes apart before Nicolosi made it 16-2.  Maritime added three in the fourth quarter to finish off the 19-2 win.
Wright
 led the Privateers with four goals.  Nicolosi
 recorded three goals and four assists in her first collegiate game, while Lesiewicz
 finished with three goals and three assists.  Fabiani
 had a hat trick of her own.  Jillson Neuwirth, meanwhile, tallied eight points with two goals and six assists.  Gay
 scored twice and collected a team-high five draw controls, and 
Kiera Ford (Montgomery, NY) found the back of the net twice.
Liz Pomaro (Farmingville, NY) (1-0) earned the win after shutting the Colonels out over the first 30 minutes.  
Tori Koenig (Roxbury, NY) played the second half and made one save.
Savannah Bauman and Camryn Devitt were the goal scorers for Wilkes.  Laurel Hopfer posted a game-high three ground balls, while Brooklyn Pedana led the Colonels with five draw controls.  Starting goalkeeper Ashley Coughlin (0-2) made five first-half saves before being replaced by Courtney Mallon, who stopped three Maritime shots.
Next weekend, the Privateers will compete in the first Maritime Cup since 2020.  The matchup with Massachusetts Maritime (0-0) is at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. game against Maine Maritime (0-1) on Saturday.  Both games will be played at Massachusetts Maritime.
