THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team scored an early goal for the second straight game on Saturday night. The Privateers (1-8-3, 0-5-2 Skyline) allowed an equalizer in the 59
th minute, though, and had to settle for a 1-1 tie against Old Westbury (1-7-2, 0-4-2 Skyline) at Reinhart Field. With the draw, Maritime snapped a four-game losing streak.
Maritime applied the early pressure and got on the board in the 13
th minute.
Justin Song (Syosset, NY) sent a perfectly-placed centering pass into the box, and it was headed in by
Fanis Tsatalios (Wayne, NJ), who gave the Privateers a 1-0 lead. The Privateers continued to push the pace offensively, but were unable to sneak another one by Old Westbury goalkeeper James Perciballi.
Danny Madeira (New Rochelle, NY), meanwhile, was just as good on the other end. He made six first-half saves to preserve the 1-0 score.
In the 59
th minute, Perciballi stopped a
Jake Cosgrove (Seaford, NY) shot and the Panthers were able to score on the counterattack. Jessi Vasquez ran down the left side, split the defense, and sent one past Madeira to tie the game. Neither side had a quality scoring chance over the final 30 minutes, as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
Tsatalios was credited with his second goal of the season, and his first since Sept. 10. Song's assist was his team-leading third of the year. Madeira (0-4-2), meanwhile, posted a career-best 10 saves. Perciballi (1-7-2) made five saves for Old Westbury.
After playing eight of its first 12 games at home, four of Maritime's five remaining contests are on the road. The Privateers begin the stretch on Monday with an 11 a.m. matchup against St. Joseph's Brooklyn (3-5-3, 1-3-2 Skyline) that will be played at Randall's Island Field 74.
