Privateers Beaten By Penn State Berks In Non-Conference Finale

READING, PA – The Maritime College men's soccer team wrapped up its non-conference schedule on Sunday afternoon with a matchup at Penn State Berks.  Despite playing up a man for the final 24 minutes due to a Penn State Berks red card, the Privateers (1-10-3) were unable to overcome a 2-0 deficit and fell to the Nittany Lions (5-9-1) at Turf Field.

Ryan Miller put Penn State Berks on the board in the 14th minute, when he took a Shane Gleason cross and put it into the back of the net.  The Privateers had a chance to tie it in the 24th minute, but the attempt by Fanis Tsatalios (Wayne, NJ) was stopped by goalkeeper Ethan Brazier.

After Nick Glancy (Deer Park, NY) played one off the goal line to keep it a 1-0 game just before halftime, Alex Chamorro nearly made it 2-0 in the 48th minute.  His shot hit the crossbar, however.  Penn State added a second goal in the 53rd minute, when Owen Van Dyke put home Chamorro's cross.  The Nittany Lions' Mark Pirrone was issued a red card in the 66th minute, but Maritime couldn't take advantage and fell by that 2-0 margin.

Maritime was outshot 18-4 in the game, including 15-2 in the first half, and Danny Madeira (New Rochelle, NY) (0-6-2) made three saves.  Brazier (4-7-1) was credited with a pair of saves for Penn State Berks.

On Wednesday night, the Privateers (0-6-2 Skyline) resume Skyline Conference play with a 7 p.m. visit to Merchant Marine (6-4-5, 3-1-4 Skyline).
