NEWBURGH, NY – On Tuesday night, the Maritime College men's soccer team faced Mount St. Mary for the first time since the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship Game. The defending Skyline champion Privateers (3-4-0, 0-3-0 Skyline) were unable to repeat that result, however, as the Knights (3-5-0, 2-1-0 Skyline) registered a 5-0 victory at Kaplan Field.
Mount St. Mary's Matt Wyant opened the scoring in the 15
th minute before Peter Ramirez made it 2-0 just over two minutes later. Wyant then connected with Connor Doyle twice to give the Knights a 4-0 halftime lead. Mount St. Mary added one more in the second half, as Doyle completed a hat trick in the 65
th minute.
Tim Nichols (West Seneca, NY) (3-4-0) faced 18 shots and made seven saves.
Frank Schmidt (Massapequa Park, NY) recorded a team-high three shots, one of which went on goal. Mount St. Mary goalkeeper Zach Decker (3-5-0) stopped four Maritime shots.
After playing two straight on the road, the Privateers will be at home for three of their next four contests. St. Joseph's (LI) (2-3-1, 1-2-1 Skyline) visits Reinhart Field on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
