YONKERS, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team played its first Skyline Conference road game of the season on Saturday night at Sarah Lawrence. The Privateers (3-3-0, 0-2-0 Skyline) were unable to come away with the victory, however, as the Gryphons (3-5-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) earned a 2-0 win at Fleming Field.
Sarah Lawrence struck for an early goal in the 10th minute. Julian Day corralled a bouncing ball and flicked it over the head of Maritime goalkeeper
Tim Nichols (West Seneca, NY) to put the Gryphons in front. It would stay that way until the 82nd minute, when Sarah Lawrence doubled its advantage on a goal by Yusef Maftoon.
Maritime outshot Sarah Lawrence 14-4, including an 8-1 edge in the second half, but was unable to sneak one past Kian Silva. Silva (3-1-0) made five second-half saves and nine overall. Nichols (3-3-0), meanwhile, was credited with two saves in the loss.
On Tuesday night, the Privateers head to Mount St. Mary (2-5-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. It will be the first meeting between the teams since Maritime's 3-2 victory over the Knights in the 2019 Skyline Conference Championship Game.
