COBLESKILL, NY – Christopher Tavernese (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) scored twice and
Jack Dugan (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) had three assists, as the Maritime College men's soccer team (3-1-0) earned a 4-0 victory over Cobleskill (0-5-0) at the Fighting Tiger Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on Sunday. The game was Maritime's final non-conference contest of the season.
Dugan picked up his first assist in the 25
th minute, when he set up a goal by
Joseph Cebollero (Commack, NY). The Privateers took that 1-0 lead into halftime, then added three more tallies in the second half.
In the 64
th minute, Dugan and Tavernese connected to make it 2-0, and Tavernese found the back of the net again five minutes later off an assist from
Ryan Breaton (Bayport, NY/Bayport Bluepoint).
Liam Redden then capped the scoring in the 78
th minute after putting in the rebound on Dugan's initial shot that was saved.
The Privateers outshot the Fighting Tigers 22-5, including a 10-0 edge in shots on goal. Cobleskill goalkeeper John Gergen (0-5-0) made six saves. For Maritime,
Tim Nichols (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis) and
Ryan Mathis (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) combined for the shutout. Nichols (3-1-0) got the start and was credited with the win, while Mathis played the final 15 minutes.
Maritime begins Skyline Conference play on Wednesday, when Mount St. Vincent (3-0-1, 1-0-0 Skyline) visits Reinhart Field at 7:30 p.m. It will be the defending Skyline Champion Privateers' first matchup against a conference opponent since their win at Mount St. Mary in the 2019 Skyline Championship Game.
