Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maritime Falls 2-0 to Five Towns

THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2021 season on Friday evening.  Five Towns (1-1-0) converted a penalty kick, then added an insurance tally 12 minutes later to earn a 2-0 victory over the Privateers (2-1-0) at Reinhart Field.

Neither team was able to do much offensively in the first 45 minutes, and the contest went into halftime scoreless.  Five Towns then broke through in the 56th minute, when a Privateer foul in the box resulted in a penalty kick.  James Habert stepped up to the spot and put it home, giving the Sound a 1-0 lead.  In the 68th minute, Five Towns doubled its lead on a goal by Angel Chavez.

Maritime had several scoring chances over the final 20 minutes, but was unable to sneak one by Steven Paguada.  Paguada (1-1-0) finished with three saves in the victory.  Privateers goalkeeper Tim Nichols (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Francis) (2-1-0), meanwhile, made a pair of saves.

It'll be a quick turnaround for the Privateers, who return to action at Cobleskill (0-3-0) on Sunday.  Maritime's non-conference finale is slated for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
