Women's Lacrosse Moves to 4-0 Behind Dominant Performance Against Mount Saint Mary

The Maritime College women's lacrosse team continued their undefeated 2021 season on Monday night as they rolled through Mount Saint Mary with a 16-6 victory. The Privateers win was powered by a dominant first half, where they outscored the Knights 12-1.

Freshman attacker Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton on Hudson, NY) got the scoring started under two minutes into the action, and then Sara Wright (East Islip, NY/East Islip) took over for Maritime. Wright scored four consecutive goals, including a pair just seven seconds apart as she scored, won the ensuing draw control, and went straight to the goal to score again. Although Wright was done scoring for the half, she still assisted on two of the next three goals.

With the towering 12-1 lead at halftime, Maritime was able to cruise through the second half to secure the 16-6 victory and continue the best start in program history. Last Friday, the Privateers defeated St. Joseph's Long Island for the first time in program history, and earlier this season defeated both USMMA and Manhattanville, who took out Maritime easily during the 2019 season.

Wright put up impressive numbers in the win, totaling eight points with five goals and three assists, as well as eight draw controls and two ground balls. Nicole Johnson (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) tallied five points with four goals and an assist as well as a game-high nine draw controls. Jillson Neuwirth, Mackenzie Fabiani (Bayport, NY/Bayport Blue Point), and Jessica Fraccalvieri (Sayville, NY) all totaled three points, while Olivia Mattioni (Plymouth Meeting, PA) and Sarah Malone (Calvert County, MD/Calvert) each added one. Elizabeth Pomaro (Farmingville, NY/Newfield) earned her fourth win in goal with seven saves.

The Privateers will travel to Farmingdale St. on Friday at 6 p.m. for a battle of the two unbeaten teams in the Skyline Conference.
