THROGGS NECK, NY – The Maritime College men's basketball team returned to action for the first time in nearly two weeks on Saturday afternoon.  The Privateers (2-3, 0-1 Skyline), whose last two scheduled games were both postponed, opened their Skyline Conference schedule with a 68-51 loss to Manhattanville (4-4, 1-1 Skyline) at Riesenberg Gymnasium.
After a 
Jaylin Gray (Brooklyn, NY) three-pointer gave the Privateers a 10-8 lead with 13:40 left in the first half, Manhattanville went on a 16-5 run to open up a 24-15 cushion.  A pair of 
Theo Noble (Bronx, NY) free throws brought Maritime back within six at 26-20 before the Valiants closed the half on a 12-4 rally to take a 38-24 advantage into the locker room.
Manhattanville's lead reached a game-high 27 points at 56-29 midway through the second half, but the Privateers responded with a 7-0 spurt to trim their deficit to 56-36.  After the Valiants pushed the margin back to 24 points at 66-42, Maritime ended the game on a 9-2 rally.  
Robbie Mitchell (Richmond, NY) hit a pair of late foul shots to cap the scoring in the 68-51 defeat.
Gray had 14 points to pace the Privateers.  
Alec Downes (Seaford, NY) finished with seven points off the bench, while Mitchell
 grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
 Ryan Donovan (North Salem, NY) added five boards and three assists for Maritime.  As a team, the Privateers shot 30.8 percent (16-of-52) from the field, 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from long range, and 65 percent (13-of-20) at the free throw line.
For the Valiants, Tommy Lotitio led the way with 15 points and eight rebounds to go along with six assists and three steals.  Jackson Leech contributed 12 points and six boards, while Chris Maestre poured in nine points.  Manhattanville shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the floor, 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from downtown, and 62.5 percent (10-of-16) at the charity stripe.
This was the first of three games in five days to close out the first semester for Maritime.  The Privateers hit the road on Monday night, when they visit Baruch (5-3) at 7:30 p.m.
