THROGGS NECK, NY – After leading the Maritime College men's swimming & diving team to a pair of victories to start the season, two Privateers have been honored by the Skyline Conference.
Brenner Hinds (Bay Head, NJ) was named Skyline Swimmer of the Week, while
Patrick Rau (Great Neck, NY) was chosen as the Skyline Rookie of the Week.
Hinds won three events in the season-opening win at Purchase last Tuesday. He anchored the Privateers' victorious 200 yard medley relay squad, and earned individual victories in the 100 yard freestyle (55.40) and 200 yard individual medley (2:12.84). Hinds added two more individual wins against William Paterson on Saturday. He took first in the 50 yard freestyle (23.06) and 100 yard backstroke (59.20), as Maritime defeated the host Pioneers.
Rau had an impressive debut against Purchase, winning the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 11:58.81, which was more than three minutes faster than the second-place finisher. He also took second behind Hinds in the 100 freestyle (57.34). In Saturday's win over William Paterson, Rau took second in the 1000 freestyle (12:12.01) while also placing fourth in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.19) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:16.61).
The Privateers return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Sarah Lawrence for a tri-meet that also includes Bard at 6 p.m.
