Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Maritime Edged By St. Joseph’s Brooklyn

THROGGS NECK, NY – After earning a key road win at Purchase on Saturday, the Maritime College men's soccer team looked to carry that momentum into Tuesday night's matchup with St. Joseph's Brooklyn.  It was not to be, though, as the Bears (3-6-1, 1-4-1 Skyline) earned a 3-0 victory over the Privateers (5-6-0, 2-5-0 Skyline) at Reinhart Field.

St. Joseph's Brooklyn scored on its first two shots of the game, a blast by Arturo Franco just 2:18 in, and a chip by Matthew Helfant in the 22nd minute.  Maritime controlled play for much of the half, but was unable to sneak one by St. Joseph's Brooklyn goalkeeper Alejandro Oliveros.  The Bears then extended their lead to 3-0 on Matthew Kieblesz's goal early in the second half.

Maritime continued to put the pressure on Oliveros, firing seven second-half shots.  Oliveros (3-6-1) made six saves, though, including four in the second half, to keep the Privateers off the scoreboard and seal the win for St. Joseph's Brooklyn.

Jack Dugan (Mount Sinai, NY) fired five of Maritime's 17 shots, and Christopher Tavernese (Garden City, NY) attempted four shots.  Tim Nichols (West Seneca, NY) (5-6-0) took the loss in net.

The Privateers, who are fighting for a spot in the Skyline Conference Tournament, have four games remaining on its regular season schedule.  Maritime visits Old Westbury (2-8-1, 0-6-1 Skyline) at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
