Women's Lacrosse Captures 2020 Maritime Cup over Maine Maritime, 17-1

BUZZARDS BAY, M.A. -- The Maritime College women's lacrosse team defeated Maine Maritime Academy in the second game of the 2020 Maritime Cup, 17-1, Saturday morning. For head coach Alyssa Guido and the program, it's their second straight year capturing the Cup.

The scoring efforts were spread out from the Privateers as seven different members scored at least one goal, while nine athletes registered a point. Sara Wright (East Islip, NY/East Islip) was dominant on the draw control, picking up 11, while Nicole Johnson (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) stabilized the defense with eight ground balls. In sixty minutes of action, Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, NY/Huntington) registered two saves and the win.

Maritime jumped out to an early lead with seven goals in the game's first 11 minutes: Brenna O'Reilly (Eastport, NY/St. Anthonys), Wright (3), Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, NY/Miller Place), Sarah Malone (Calvert County, MD/Calvert), Johnson all found the back of the Mariners' net. From 13:45 left in the half to the break, the Privateers added six more goals from: Johnson (3), Deleva (2), and O'Reilly. At the half, the Privateers held a commanding 13-1 lead, and had out-shot Maine Maritime 21-to-1.

In the second half, Miller Condrack (Siesta Key, FL/Out The Door Academy) and Mackenzie Fabiani (Bayport, NY/Bayport Blue Point) added goals of their own, while Deleva and Wright continued to find success on the attack, each with a goal in the final 12 minutes.

Up next, the Privateers will travel to Wilkes-Barre, P.A. to face Wilkes University on Sunday, March 8, at 1:00 PM.
