Men's Soccer Shuts Out Farmingdale, 2-0

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Maritime College men's soccer team picked up its first Skyline Conference win of 2019, defeating Farmingdale State, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Privateers improved to 6-5 (2-1) on the year.

Maritime was paced by Denton Henry (Lindenhurst, NY/Jamaica), who scored both goals in the match, and by goalkeeper, Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham), who had five saves on the day, securing the Privateers' fourth shutout win of the season.

In the game's opening minutes, Henry crashed the net off a corner kick from Thomas Kropp (East Northport, N.Y./Northport), and was able to head the ball past the Farmingdale keeper to break open the scoring. Maritime fended off 10 first-half shots from the Rams to take the one goal lead into halftime.

In the 60th minute, the Privateers were able to take advantage of a failed attempt to clear the ball by the Farmingdale defense, and Henry ripped a shot into the back of the net for his second goal of the game.

The Rams tried to respond with an offensive attack of their own but Rodriguez saved shots in the 77th and 81st minutes to preserve the shutout.

The Privateers will return to action on Tuesday, October 1, at 7:30 PM, as they host Skyline opponent, Mount St. Vincent, on Reinhart Field.
