Men's Lacrosse Takes out Mount Saint Vincent 20-3 for Second Straight Skyline Win

The Maritime College men's lacrosse team defeated Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon by a score of 20-3 for their second straight Skyline Conference win. The dominant victory improved the Privateers to 8-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

Matt DeMeo (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) led the offensive effort with seven goals and one assist. The eight-point performance made him the new program record holder for points in a season, which was previously held by Donald Toby from the 2007 season. DeMeo broke his own single-season goal record in Maritime's last outing against Purchase, and now has 49 goals and 13 assists for 62 points so far this season.

The Privateers wasted no time getting on the board as Danny Connell (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) found Brett Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) for the first goal of the game less than a minute into the action. On the ensuing possession, Matt DeMeo (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) made it 2-0 off an assist from Michael Petty (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber). DeMeo, the program record holder for goals in a season, scored twice more before the end of the first period while Mike Leake (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) tallied three of his own as the Privateers took a 7-1 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter saw more offensive dominance from Maritime as they tacked on six more goals before halftime to take a 13-2 lead. Noah Kelvas (Putnam Valley, NY/Putnam Valley), DeMeo, Connell and Trodden all contributed goals in the second frame.

Looking to solidify their control of the game in the second half, the Privateers defense shut out the Dolphins in the third quarter as they made it a 16-2 advantage entering the final 15 minutes of the game. Maritime went on to put up their first 20-goal performance of the season as they improved to 2-0 in Skyline play.

Connell and Trodden each chipped in a five-point performance with two goals and three assists each. Leake was second in goals scored behind DeMeo with four. Kevin Buser () won 23 out of 24 faceoff's and tallied a team-high 16 ground balls.

The Privateers are back in action at Reinhart Field on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a Skyline Conference clash against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
