Skyline Playoff Fields Set for Privateers Following Historic Spring Season

Following a historic spring season for the women's lacrosse, men's lacrosse, and baseball teams, the Skyline Conference playoff fields set are set for Wednesday, May 1. The women's lacrosse team will travel to top seeded USMMA for a 5:30 p.m. start, while the men's lacrosse team will host fourth seeded St. Joseph's Long Island at 5 p.m. and the baseball team will host the fifth seeded Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m.

No. 4 Women's Lacrosse at No. 1 USMMA - 5:30 p.m.
Under first-year head coach Alyssa Guido, the women's lacrosse set numerous single-season and program records during their 2019 campaign. After a 10-6 win over Mount Saint Vincent on April 9, the Privateers recorded their sixth win of the season, setting a new program high for wins in a season. Maritime went on to defeat Purchase College and Mount Saint Mary in their final two games of the season to clinch the program's first ever playoff berth. Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) and Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led a powerful offensive attack all season long as Deleva recorded 84 points on 41 goals and 43 assists, while Pfundstein tallied 62 points on 55 goals and seven assists. Pfundstein set a new program mark for goals in a season during their final game, and is currently tied with Deleva at the top of the record books in career goals with 129. Deleva also holds the program records for assists and points, whlie teammate Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) became the new program leader in draw controls in just her second season. During the regular season, the Privateers lead early against the Mariners with a 2-1 advantage nearly 15 minutes into the first half. Unfortunately, the undefeated USMMA team was able to turn it around and defeat Maritime 16-3.

Coach's Corner:
"Obviously it was an incredible season and we accomplished a lot, but we're not done yet and we're excited to keep our season going and compete for a championship. USMMA is a very tough opponent, but we showed that we can compete with them early on during the regular season. We're looking forward to playing them again and improving on our last performance."

No. 1 Men's Lacrosse vs. No. 4 St. Joseph's Long Island - 5:00 p.m.
Under interim head coach Justin Manjares, the men's lacrosse team made history this season as they clinched the program's first ever top seed in the Skyline Conference playoffs. The Privateers finished 12-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Sophomore attacker Matt DeMeo (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) was incredible all season long for Maritime's offense as he broke his own program record for goals in a season by netting 62 goals. The sophomore also reached the 100 goal milestone in the final regular season game. Junior attacker Danny Connell (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) broke the program record for assists in a season with 30. The Privateers regular season was highlighted by their first win over USMMA since 2008, as they took the Hagedorn Cup by a score of 19-9. In addition to the powerful offense all season, Maritime's defense held every conference opponent to 10 goals or less. During the regular season, the Privateers defeated the Golden Eagles on the road by a score of 17-7 behind five goals from DeMeo and four from Mike Leake (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side).

Coach's Corner:
"It's been a great year, but we're not done yet. Our main goal at the beginning of the year was to win the conference title and the next step to reaching that goal is beating a tough St. Joseph's Long Island team. We got the better of them during the regular season, but we know we're going to have to come out strong on Wednesday and that they will give us a battle."

No. 4 Baseball vs. No. 5 St. Joseph's Long Island - 7:30 p.m.
Under fifth-year head coach Charlie Barbieri, the baseball team earned a 20-win season for the fourth consecutive year in 2019. Their season was highlighted by an inredible 10-game win streak during the end of March. The win streak was capped off by back-to-back extra-inning walk-off wins against Mount Saint Vincent. In the opening game of the doubleheader, Ryan Rockhill (Eastchester, NY/Tuckahoe) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings and then in the bottom of the 13th inning, senior Joe Scerra (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) hit his first career home run to pick up the walk-off win. In the second game of the doubleheader, it was the Dolphins who tied the game late, but once again Maritime had the late game heroics as Nick McTighe (Merrick, N.Y./Holy Trinity) picked up a walk-off single to score the winning run. On the mound, freshman pitcher Niko Concha (Ballston Spa, NY/Saratoga) earned three weekly awards from the Skyline Conference; two Rookie of the Week awards and one Pitcher of the Week award. Senior A.J. Ammirati (Queens, N.Y./Construction) also saw success as he earned his 10th career win and finished the year with a 2.36 ERA in 45.2 innings pitched, good enough for second all-time in a season. During the regular season, Maritime split with the Golden Eagles, dropping a 3-1 decision in the opening game and winning the second game 4-1.

Coach's Corner:
"It's going to be a really intense and tough game on Wednesday just like our regular season matchups. We're very excited to go out and compete for a conference championship in the playoffs for the sixth straight year and hopefully we can defend our home field on Wednesday and keep the season going."
