Women's Lacrosse Clinches Program's First Playoff Berth with 15-8 Senior Day Win over Mount Saint Mary

The Maritime College women's lacrosse team made history on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Mount Saint Mary 15-8 to clinch the program's first ever Skyline Conference playoff berth. Prior to the game, the team honored its three senior members, Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River), and Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip). In addition to the program's first playoff berth, the Privateers set multiple individual records. Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) recorded her 200th career point in the game, and set a single-game record for assists, while Pfundstein broke Deleva's record for goals in a season after a seven-goal performance.

Maritime came out hot to start the final regular season game as they netted the first three goals of the game less than 90 seconds into the game. Deleva, who was five points away from reaching 200 career points, assisted on all three of the goals, while Murphy, Pfundstein, and MacKenzie Fabiani (Bayport, NY/Bay) were able to find the back of the net. Deleva continued to facilitate the high-powered offense by scoring to make it a 4-1 lead and then finding Pfundstein once again to make it a 5-1 advantage and mark her 200th career point.

After Deleva set a new career high, Pfundstein netted her third goal of the game at 6-1 to break the program record for goals in a season with her 51st goal of the season. Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) went on the tack on the final goal of the half as the Privateers entered the locker room with an 8-3 lead.

Maritime continued to smother the Knights on both ends of the ball in the second half and after back-to-back goals from Pfundstein, the Privateers held a 12-4 advantage with 15 minutes left in the game. Mount Saint Mary went on to close the game out strong, but Maritime's lead was too big for any comeback hopes and they closed out the regular season with a 15-8 win.

The victory improved the Privateers record to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in Skyline play, both program bests. "It was an incredible season, the seniors and everybody on the team worked very hard to reach this point," said head coach Alyssa Guido. "I'm really proud of what we have accomplished this year and we're excited to take another shot at USMMA next week."

Deleva finished the game with 11 points on seven assists and four goals, tying her own record set earlier this season for points in a game. Pfundstein led all goal scorers by tallying seven, bringing her season total to 55. Wright led Maritime with 14 draw controls and eight ground balls, while Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) totaled three saves en route to her eighth win of the season.

Maritime finished the season fourth overall in the conference standings and will travel to USMMA on Wednesday, May 1.
