Men's Lacrosse Wins Third in a Row with Victory at Hampton

The Maritime College men's lacrosse team took to the road on Friday afternoon to challenge Division 1 opponent Hampton University. The Privateers season-best 17 points, including a six-score second period, was enough to propel them past the Pirates by a score of 17-11. The Maritime victory is now their third consecutive as they improve to 3-1 on the 2019 campaign.

Sophomore Matt Demeo added a career-high six goals to lead the Privateers high-powered offense. Behind Demeo, eight fellow Privateers found the back of the net on the afternoon. Danny Connell (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) was next on the Privateers in scoring with three goals, followed by Bryan Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), who added two goals. Collin Flannery (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), Tyler Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Glenn-Elwood), Mike Leake (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side), Patrick McAllister (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur), Michael Petty (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber), and Brett Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) all added one goal apiece. As a team, the Privateers assisted on 12 of the 17 goals scored. Connell and Leake led all Maritime players with three assists, followed by Trodden who added two.

In goal, Justin Weigold (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was stellar as he totaled 11 saves to pick up the win.

The Privateers got off to a quick start as DeMeo recorded his first goal of the game with 11:57 remaining in the first period. Following the Demeo score, the Pirates would then go on to score back-to-back goals to jump out in front. The Privateers would then follow with five consecutive goals to take the 6-2 lead. The Privateers never trailed again during the entire contest.

Maritime returns to action March 13 at 6:00 PM as they welcome Vassar to Reinhart Field.
