The Maritime College men's lacrosse team took to the road on Friday afternoon to challenge Division 1 opponent Hampton University. The Privateers season-best 17 points, including a six-score second period, was enough to propel them past the Pirates by a score of 17-11. The Maritime victory is now their third consecutive as they improve to 3-1 on the 2019 campaign.
Sophomore Matt Demeo added a career-high six goals to lead the Privateers high-powered offense. Behind Demeo, eight fellow Privateers found the back of the net on the afternoon.
Danny Connell (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) was next on the Privateers in scoring with three goals, followed by
Bryan Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), who added two goals.
Collin Flannery (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River),
Tyler Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Glenn-Elwood),
Mike Leake (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side),
Patrick McAllister (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur),
Michael Petty (Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber), and
Brett Trodden (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) all added one goal apiece. As a team, the Privateers assisted on 12 of the 17 goals scored. Connell and Leake led all Maritime players with three assists, followed by Trodden who added two.

Justin Weigold (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was stellar as he totaled 11 saves to pick up the win.

The Privateers got off to a quick start as DeMeo recorded his first goal of the game with 11:57 remaining in the first period. Following the Demeo score, the Pirates would then go on to score back-to-back goals to jump out in front. The Privateers would then follow with five consecutive goals to take the 6-2 lead. The Privateers never trailed again during the entire contest.
Maritime returns to action March 13 at 6:00 PM as they welcome Vassar to Reinhart Field.
