Pfundstein Nets Her 100th Career Goal as Maritime Improves to 4-2

On Saturday the Maritime College women's lacrosse team was victorious over the Wilkes University Colonels by the score of 15-9. In the win, senior midfielder Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) recorded her 100th career goal.  Pfundstein becomes the third ever Privateer to reach the 100 goal milestone, joining teammate Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) whom recorded her 100th career goal in Maritimes win over Main Maritime on March 3. The win improved Maritime's overall record to 4-2 overall.

The Privateers took control of the game early on and never trailed throughout the 60-minute game. Just 1:32 into the first half, Pfundstein spearheaded the Privateers offense as she netted her first of four goals in the contest. Maritime would not take long to score as Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) put Maritime a head 2-0. After Wilkes tied the game at 2-2, Deleva would put the Privateers back up with her second score of the game. Less than two minutes later, MacKenzie Fabiani (Bayport, NY/Bay) found the back of the net off of a Deleva assist. The Colonels would once again score two consecutive goals to even up the score at 4-4. With just 4:44 remaining in the half, Pfundstein gave the Privateers the 5-4 lead, and the lead in which the Privateers would keep for the remainder of the contest.

Maritime kept the offensive surge going in the second half as they outscored Wilkes by a margin of nine to five. The offensive eruption was enough for the Privateers to secure the 15-9 lead.

The Privateers were led by Deleva who scored five times on the afternoon while Pfundstein added four of her own. Joining Pfundstein with four goals was Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip). Rounding up the Privateers scorers with one goal a piece was Fabiani and Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River).

In points, Deleva led the way with eight. The senior also added three assists in the contest, which was a Privateers game high. Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) was next in points with five. Pfundstein added four points, Murphy added three to go along with her two assists, and Fabiani also added two. Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) picked up seven goals in goal.

The Privateers return to action in one week as they visit Southern Vermont on March 30 at 1:00. The contest with the Mountaineers marks the end of the Privateers non-conference schedule. On Wednesday, April 3 Maritime opens up a seven game conference slate as they face off with St. Joseph's in Patchogue, N.Y.
