The Maritime College men's swimming team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 154-63 win at Lehman College on Tuesday night, while the women fell in a close matchup 98-95.
The team of
Emma Haedrich (West Islip, NY/West Islip/),
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep),
Samantha Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and
Hannah Mesones (Spring Valley, NY/Ramapo) began the meet with a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay and then
Maeve Lavery (Bronx, NY/St. Ferry) placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:09.48.
Bridget Stack (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) continued the Privateers scoring in the 200-yard freestyle with a second place finish while Brow brought home the top finish in the 50-yard freestyle at 27.73.
Lavery and Haedrich finished first and second, respectively, in the 200-yard IM and then Stack and Mesones kept the momentum going in the 100-yard butterfly with another first and second place finish. In the 100-yard freestyle, Brow continued her impressive day with a time of 1:01.25. The Privateers closed out the event with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke by Haedrich, and the top time in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind the team of Sabrina Zapson, Olivia Grabber, Mesones, and Lavery.
On the men's side, the relay team of
Caelan Troy (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), Dan Walsh,
Gabriel Menz (Vineland, NJ/Vineland), and
Brenner Hinds (Bay Head, NJ/Point Pleasant Beach) opened up the meet with a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:46.79.
Malachi Melli (Bridgewater, NJ/Somerset County VoTech) then kept it going with the top time in the 1000-yard freestyle at 12:17.76. The Privateers continued their dominating swimming as Walsh,
Stephen Roe (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township), and Edwin Moriarty placed first, second, and third in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively. In the 50-yard freestyle,
Brian Reilly (Sayville, NY/Sayville) touched the wall first at 24.73.
The 100-yard butterfly saw another sweep of the top three spots from Maritime as Roe, Menz, and Alexander Baros all touched the wall before the Lightning. The 100-yard freestyle saw Hinds and
Matt Sesack (Sayville, NY/Sayville) take the top two spots at 52.10 and 53.56, respectively. Troy then finished first in the 100-yard backstroke before Moriarty beat out Walsh in the 500-yard freestyle for the top spot. The Privateers closed out the meet with a first and second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Maritime will take a break before returning to action on January 14 in a home tri-meet against USMMA and Mount Saint Mary. They will then compete in the Skyline Conference Championship meet on January 24 and 25.
