Men's Soccer Falls to Skyline Conference Foe Mount Saint Mary

The Maritime College men's soccer team traveled to Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday night for a tough Skyline Conference matchup. Unfortunately, the Privateers were unable to come out with a win as they fell by a score of 2-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Ethan Silver (New Haven, CT/Engineering and Science University) and the Privateers defense held strong for most of the first half, but in the 26th minute the Knights finally broke through and took a 1-0 lead. Maritime was unable to make either of their shot attempts in the opening half count and entered the locker room trailing by one.

The second half saw more resilience from Silver and the defense as they turned away the first nine shots from Mount Saint Mary. The strong defensive play gave the Privateers one final chance at evening the score as Anthony Sblendorio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) registered a shot on target in the 87th minute. However, the shot attempt didn't find the back of the net and the Knights were able to add one final goal with 30 seconds remaining to play.

Silver, who has already picked up a Rookie of the Week nod, finished with four saves in goal. Denton Henry (Lindenhurst, NY/Jamaica) and Jack Kilmeade (Northport, NY/Northport) tallied the other two shots for Maritime in the loss.

The Privateers fell to 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in conference play with the loss. This Saturday, they will return to action at home as they take on St. Joseph's Long Island at 2 p.m. on Reinhart Field.
