Men's Soccer Can't Overcome Early Goal From St. Joseph's Long Island and Fall 1-0

The Maritime College men's soccer team entered its second conference matchup in three days as they took on St. Joseph's College Long Island, but they were unable to keep the momentum going from their comeback win against Yeshiva University on Thursday, and fell to the Golden Eagles 1-0.

St. Joseph's notched a goal in the 14th minute, but the Maritime offense responded and kept the pressure on the Golden Eagles for the rest of the game as they recorded a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks and a 12-11 advantage in shots taken.

In the first 12 minutes of the second half, the Privateers tallied four shots and one corner kick, but they continued to struggle to find the back of the net.

With time winding down in the game, Maritime College got one last opportunity as they took a corner kick with 19 seconds left, but they were unable to break through and lost the game 1-0.

James Roland (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), Anthony Sblendorio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), Parker Gallt (Las Vegas, Nev./Plainfield South (Ill.)), Anthony Palazzolo (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman), Larry Castello (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge), and Jerome Eastwood (Houston, Texas/Stratford) recorded two shots each for the Privateers. The Maritime offense entered the week tied for the lead in the NCAA in goals scored with 35, but for just the second time this season, the Privateers were shut out and fell to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in Skyline play.

Junior goalkeeper Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) tallied three saves in the loss. The Privateers return home on Tuesday, Sep. 25 against Saint Elizabeth and then jump back into Skyline play on Friday at home against Sarah Lawrence. Maritime College will hope to remain undefeated at Reinhart Field during the two-game home stand.
