Deleva Sets Program Record for Points as Privateers Down Dolphins on Senior Day

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Junior Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) became the Maritime women's lacrosse all-time leader in points on Saturday afternoon with a season-best eight-point effort in the 14-5 Privateer victory over the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins on Reinhart Field.

With her eight points in the win Deleva now has 114 points, which is six better than Catherin Brady '12 who ended her illustrious career with 108 points including 100 career goals. Deleva is now fourth all-time in goals with 81 after scoring five goals on the afternoon to increase her single-season record to 43 goals on the campaign.

Deleva also added three assists in addition to her five goals to five her 20 on the season, as she is already the single-season and career assist record holder with 33 career helpers.

Junior Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) also had a strong start to her game with a five-point effort including four goals. Pfundstein also added two draw controls to pull into a second-place tie all-time in draw controls. She now has 114 draw wins which is 75 shy of the program record, which is also held by the aforementioned Brady.

With her seven draw controls on the afternoon freshman Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) set the single-season record for draws in one campaign as she now has 78 on her rookie season, four better than Brady, who notched 74 in her senior season of 2012.

Saturday was also Senior Day on Reinhart Field as the Privateers honored the three members of its senior class playing in their final games on Reinhart Field. A small on-field ceremony was held recognizing Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold), Christa Case (Southington, Conn./Southington) and Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point). Yee had two caused turnovers and three ground balls in the win, while Case had one assist and one caused turnover. Brady made her non-goalkeeping debut this season and scored the opening goal of the contest.

Junior Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and sophomore Anna Smith (Sayre, Pa./Waverly) also scored goals in the victory. Deleva led the team with three assists, while Pfundstein, Wright, Case and freshman Amy Landman (Norfolk, Va./Maury) all had solo assists.

Junior Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) led the defensive effort with three caused turnovers, while Deleva, Salatto, and Yee all forced two. Wright led the Privateers with seven ground balls while Murphy added six and Salatto tallied four on the afternoon.

In goal, sophomore Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) notched the win as she tied her season-high with 16 saves.

Brady got Maritime on the board first followed by Deleva making it 2-0 just over a minute later. Pfundstein scored the next two on assists by Deleva before Mount St. Vincent scored its first of the game to make the score 4-1.

Pfundstein scored the next two before Deleva netted a pair to push the Privateers ahead by an 8-1 score. The Dolphins scored once more in the half to cap off the first period in scoring with Maritime leading, 8-2.
