THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime women's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season with a 16-4 win over the Dallas Crusaders on Friday night on Reinhart Field.
The top goal scorer for Maritime was junior midfielder
Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), she scored a game-high five goals. Junior attacker
Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) tallied four goals and one assists to give her five points on the night. Sophomore attacker
Lilianna Di Gesu (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) netted three goals also.
Defensively junior midfielder
Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) led the team with three caused turnovers while also scooping eight ground balls for Maritime. Pfundstein caused two turnovers while picking up four ground balls while junior defender
Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), Deleva and sophomore goalkeeper
Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) each caused one turnover for the game.
Freshman midfielder
Sara Wright (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) led the Privateers with 15 draw controls, one shy of tying the program record and she also had two goals and four ground balls for the Privateers.
In goal sophomore
Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) had four saves, while allowing four goals Dallas goals.
Maritime started off fast with three goals in the first two minutes of play. Pfundstein scored two of the three while Deleva had the other. Pfundstein scored the next goal at the 26:12 mark followed two goals from Deleva making the score 6-0 Maritime at the 22:32 mark of the first half. Wright scored less than a minute later to increase the Privateer lead to seven.
At the 18:24 mark of the first half Dallas erased the shutout making it 7-1. Maritime would score the next four goals en route to an 11-1 lead going into the break. Pfundstein and Deleva scored one each while Di Gesu scored her first two goals of the game.
Maritime continued their dominant first half as they scored three straight to open the second half. Dallas scored three more goals but it was not enough as Maritime would go on to win by a final score of 16-4.
Maritime (1-2) will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host Purchase in their first Skyline Conference game beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Reinhart Field.
Dallas (0-6) will be back in action on the road again this Sunday when the visit Mount St. Vincent beginning at 3 p.m.
