Men’s Soccer Blanks Sarah Lawrence, 5-0, in Skyline Matchup

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Maritime men's soccer team picked up a road victory in Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons at Bronxville High School.
 
Maritime got goals from four players including senior Harry Colucci (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandenmeulen), junior Parker Gallt (Las Vegas, Nev./Plainfield South (Ill.)), sophomore Anthony Sblendorio (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), and freshman Neil Dillon (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park). The fifth goal was an own goal against the Gryphons. Colucci and junior Joe Merendino (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) were also credited with assists on the afternoon.
 
In goal sophomore Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) made a season-high nine saves to earn his second shutout of the season.
 
The Privateers scored twice in the first half beginning with Colucci, who recorded his third goal off of a scramble in the box in the sixth minute of play. Dillon tallied his fourth goal of the season on a header in the waning minutes of the half, to give Maritime the 2-0 lead through 45 minutes.
 
Stats at the half saw Sarah Lawrence with the 9-5 advantage in shots, with Rodriguez stopping all five that were put on target. Corner kicks were even through the first 45 minutes at four kicks apiece.
 
In the second half, Gallt got the scoring started in the second half with a goal in the 55th minute of play as Gallt notched his team-leading 10th goal of the season off of a throw-in by Merendino. The next two Maritime goals came quickly in a three-minute span as Gallt crossed a pass into the box that was deflected into the goal by a Gryphon defender, Sblendorio added his fifth of the season off of a cross from Colucci at the 77:41 mark to give the Privateers a commanding 5-0 lead.
 
The final 12:19 of the match ticked off the clock, but not without another chance for Sblendorio, who hit the post with just over two minutes to go. The final horn sounded to give Maritime its second conference win of the campaign.
 
Final stats saw Maritime hold an 18-15 lead in overall shots and a 12-9 advantage in shots on goal, Rodriguez made nine saves against Sarah Lawrence's seven. Corner kicks in the end were in favor of Maritime at a 9-5 advantage.
 
Maritime (8-2-1, 2-1-0 Skyline) will next play on the road this Tuesday, when the team travels to Farmingdale for a 7 p.m. start in Suffolk County.
 
Sarah Lawrence (4-6-0, 0-2-0 Skyline) will travel to take on Mount St. Mary for an 8 p.m. start on Kaplan Field in Newburgh, N.Y.
