Men's Soccer Shuts Out Farmingdale by a 2-0 Score in Skyline Action

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Maritime men's soccer team took on the Farmingdale Rams on Rams Field on Tuesday evening, and shutout their hosts by a score of 2-0 behind two goals from junior Parker Gallt (Las Vegas, Nev./Plainfield South (Ill.)).

Gallt's two goals on the match gives the junior 12 on the season, which moves him up to fourth place on the single-season goals list dating back to the 2004 season. Picking up an assist on Gallt's first goal of the game was senior Harry Colucci (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandenmeulen). Gallt led the Privateers with four shots on the match, while freshman Anthony Palazzolo (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) added the other three Maritime shots as the Privateers had seven shots on the night.

Defensively sophomore Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) recorded his third shutout of the season as he made six saves to earn the clean sheet. Rodriguez was assisted by defenders Chris O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), Lucas Antenucci (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem), Joe Merendino (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling), Jake Palmer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), and Jerome Eastwood (Houston, Texas/Stratford) throughout the game.

Maritime got on the board early as Gallt scored his first of the night off of a corner kick from Colucci. The assist was the fifth of the season for Colucci, who now trails both Gallt and Palazzolo by one for the team lead.

As the half progressed the Rams were called for a foul in the box in the 28th minute. Gallt was selected to take the penalty kick and buried his fourth PK of the season to put Maritime ahead by a 2-0 score.

Farmingdale had chances to pull back within one as the Rams hit the post as well as the crossbar on two seperate shots, while Rodriguez made two saves down the stretch of the half to keep the Rams at bay. Maritime was outshot 8-4 through the first 45 minutes of the match, but led in corner kicks at a 2-0 clip.

Both teams had chances in the second half, but were unable to capitalize as both goalkeepers held their opponents scoreless in the second half. The final horn sounded, which signaled Maritime's second consecutive conference victory and third conference win on the year.

Farmingdale again outshot Maritime by a 10-3 margin in the second half, but it was Maritime to put all three of their second-half chances on target. In total shots favored the Rams at an 18-7 clip, however the Privateers led in shots on goal at a 7-6 margin. Corner kicks were close through the full 90, as Farmingdale held a slip 6-5 advantage.

Maritime (9-2-1, 3-1-0 Skyline) will be back in action on Saturday, when the team hosts St. Joseph's (Bklyn) in a Skyline matchup on Reinhart Field beginning at 12 p.m.

Farmingdale (5-4-0, 2-3-0 Skyline) will host City College next Monday, October 9th beginning at 4 p.m.
