Football Week 5 Preview: Alfred State at Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – After being away from Reinhart Field for the past three weeks, the Maritime football team returns home for the first time since September 2 to open Eastern Collegiate Football Conference Play against the Alfred State Pioneers at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Live Coverage: There will be live video and live stats of the matchup provided by the Maritime Sports Information Department. Visit MaritimeAthletics.com/coverage.aspx and follow the links to access the feeds. Matthew Falkenbury will be on the call of the game at approximately 12:50 p.m.

Series History: The Privateers and Pioneers have never met in program history, as this will be their first-ever meeting. This season Maritime holds a 3-0 record with wins over Maine Maritime, Mass. Maritime and Merchant Marine, while the Pioneers are winless having lost to Coast Guard, Hartwick and Rochester.

Honors from Week 3: For the third straight week, Maritime had the ECFC Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week. Junior Brandonn Drumgole (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) earned offensive accolades with 13 receptions and 164 yards, while also grabbing a pair of touchdowns against the Mariners. Senior Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) nabbed his third straight ECFC special teams honor and second consecutive ECAC DIII South special teams player of the week following the week three win.

Kraetzer's Corner: Ken Kraetzer of Sons of the American Legion Radio previewed this weekend's conference opener with Coach Kendrick-Holmes. Check out this week's Preview Video on YouTube.

Coach to Cure MD Weekend: The Maritime football coaching staff is joining coaches all over America on Saturday afternoon in wearing a patch on their left arms to help defeat the genetic disorder known as Muscular Dystrophy, which is the most prolific genetic killer diagnosed in children. Fans are encouraged to go to CoachToCureMD.org to learn more and donate, or you can donate by texting the work "CURE" to 50555 to donate $10 on your next mobile phone bill.

Coin Flip: On hand for Saturday afternoon's coin flip will be Maritime alum Anthony Patti '13. The former Privateer wide receiver was one of just three receivers to have a 100-yard game entering the 2017 season and had 23 career receptions for 305 yards in 38 career games with the Privateers. He is now the Vice President of Global Cybersecurity Services at Duff & Phelps, and was recently involved in the Maritime Locker Room Renovation project that took place in the summer of 2016.

Post-Bye Week: Since moving the bye week into the middle of the season in 2014, Maritime is 1-1 in games following bye weeks at home since then. The Privateers knocked off Anna Maria two years ago by a 44-7 score, but fell a year ago to Husson by a 33-12 margin.

College GameDay: During Maritime's off week ESPN's 'College GameDay' was hosted in Times Square, New York City. Sophomore defensive back Isaiah Shamoun (Corpus Christi, Texas/W.B. Ray) was seen on television along with senior Paul LaMarca (Franklin Square, N.Y./Holy Trinity) and football alum Sam Feliciano, proclaiming to want a Division I program from a Power Five Conference.

Around the ECFC: While Dean and Husson opened conference play two weeks ago, the Bulldogs and Eagles will be playing their final non-conference games of the year on Saturday. Husson visits Endicott, while Dean travels to Nichols. Two other league games also highlight the schedule beginning with Gallaudet at Mount Ida at 12 p.m., while Castleton travels to Anna Maria for a 3 p.m. start in Paxton, Massachusetts.
