THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime men's soccer team improved to 7-2-1 this season with an 8-1 win over the Yeshiva Maccabees on Tuesday night on Reinhart Field.
It was a team effort on the night as five Privateers scored with junior
Parker Gallt (Las Vegas, Nev./Plainfield South (Ill.)) leading the way with a hat trick and two assists. Gallt's eight points were the third highest single-match point output in program history, and is the most since 2008, when
Mayer Nelson '09 scored 10 points against Staten Island.
Senior
Harry Colucci (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandenmeulen) got the Maritime offense going with his goal in the 10th minute, assisted by his teammates, sophomores
Justin Forrest (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and
Nicholas Ciacca (Bologna, Italy/Pelham Memorial (N.Y.)).
In the 20th minute sophomore
Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) cleared the ball off a goal kick to Gallt, who then flicked it to freshman
Anthony Palazzolo (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman), who knocked in the goal to give Maritime a 2-0 lead.
In the 22nd minute Gallt punched in a penalty kick for his first goal of the night. Sophomore
Aleks Olthoff-Cusumano (Eastport, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) added a goal of his own in the 33rd minute. In the 42nd minute, another foul in the box lead to a second penalty shot for Gallt, who converted on the kick giving Maritime a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the first half, Maritime outshot Yeshiva 14-7 and they also won the corner kick battle, 4-2.
Early in the second half, Palazzolo scored his second goal of the game in the 56th minute and two minutes later Gallt scored his third of the night. Senior
Corey Cartano (Raleigh, N.C./Sanderson) scored his third goal of the season in the 65th minute with the assist from Gallt.
Late in the game Yeshiva avoided the shutout with a goal in the 69th minute. Rodriguez had four saves on the night while junior keeper
Nick Schall (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) came on in relief to make one save while playing the final 13:22 in goal for the Privateers.
Overall, Maritime outshot Yeshiva 25-14 for the match including 18-6 in shots on goal.
Maritime (7-2-1, 1-1-0 Skyline) will return to action this Saturday when they visit Sarah Lawrence beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Yeshiva (3-4-0, 0-4-0 Skyline) will play next on Thursday, September 28 when they host Farmingdale State at 8:00 p.m.
