THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime men's soccer team fell to 6-2-1 on the year with a 1-0 loss to the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon on Reinhart Field.
The Privateers played a solid game offensively but were unable to push across a goal. St. Joseph's scored in the 18th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Maritime had four shots in the first half with three of those being shots on goal.
Through the first 45 minutes the Privateers were outshot by the Golden Eagles, 6-4, but led in corner kicks 5-4. Both goalies each had three saves in the first half also.
The second half was a battle that saw the Privateers get numerous chances. Maritime had three shots in the first five minutes thanks to two from freshman
Anthony Palazzolo (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) and one from junior
Parker Gallt (Las Vegas, Nev./Plainfield South (Ill.)).
Maritime had more opportunities down the stretch to tie the game but could not score.
Overall the Privateers outshot the Golden Eagles 21-10, including 10-7 shots on goal. Maritime also won the corner kick battle, 9-6. Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) recorded six saves on the match
Maritime (6-2-1) will be back in action this Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. when they host Yeshiva in a Skyline matchup on Reinhart Field.
St. Joseph's (L.I.) (2-5) will play Mount St. Vincent this Wednesday at 4 p.m.
