THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime rugby team opened the season with a 67-7 win over Bard on Reinhart Field this past Sunday.
 
Maritime wasted little time in engaging in hard tackling and running aggressively scoring quickly from the kickoff. Ethan Cannon (Hartford, Conn.) responsible for two tries, seven extra-point conversions and a drop kick goal led the scoring for Maritime.
 
Bard never gave up and played throughout the match. Captains Andrew McHugh (Ravena, N.Y.), Owen Serbent (Killingworth, Conn.) and Sukmin Yoon (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the attack up and down the field. Outstanding play by both veterans and the MUGs provided Maritime with both speed around the corners and outstanding defense.
 
Maritime plays home against Vassar College next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
