THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference decision on Friday afternoon, falling to the Morrisville Mustangs by a 20-3 score.
Sophomore
Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led the Privateers with a pair of goals, while junior
Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) added a third Maritime tally on a free position chance. Freshman
Miller Condrack (Siesta Key, Fla./Out of Door Academy) picked up an assist on the third Privateer goal of the game. In goal, freshman
Esmeralda Hernandez (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made five saves in the effort.
Maritime started the game at a disadvantage, which Morrisville capitalized on to take a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the opening half. The Mustangs added two more goals to take a 4-0 lead.
With 3:55 gone by in the opening half, Brady tallied her first goal of the season to trim the deficit to 4-1. Morrisville netted the next four goals to take an 8-1 advantage.
Pfundstein picked up her first goal of the year on an unassisted effort before the Mustangs added three more goals. Pfundstein scored her second of the game with 7:47 left in the opening stanza to make the score 11-3. Morrisville went on to close out the game with seven unanswered goals to run away with the 20-3 victory.
Morrisville closed out the game with a 28-7 shot advantage, while the Privateers turned the ball over 29 times versus the 17 Mustang giveaways. Freshman
Elizabeth Millicker (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) led Maritime with four ground balls, while juniors
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) and
Abigail Granit (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), along with sophomore
Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) each had two caused turnovers apiece.
Draw controls were close with Morrisville taking 13 of 24, while the Mustangs led in the ground ball category with 26 loose ball pickups to Maritime's 15.
Maritime (0-3) will look to regroup as the team will next take on the Wilkes Colonels at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25 on Reinhart Field.
Morrisville (2-1) will look to run its winning streak to three, when the team takes on Potsdam on the road this coming Wednesday at 4 p.m.
