NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Maritime men's & women's swimming teams competed in their final dual meet of the 2016-17 season as Maritime took on the New Paltz Hawks at Elting Pool.

The Privateers dropped both decisions as the men fell by a 146-57 score, while the women's team also dropped the decision to the Hawks by a 141-49 margin.

Sophomore
Katia Aaron (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) of the women's team was the lone top finisher for the Privateers as she notched a time of 1:56.57 in the 200 individual medley, just two seconds shy of her career best in the event.

A quartet comprised of sophomores
Megan Alicea (Copake, N.Y./Taconic Hills) and
Erica Davis (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) along with freshmen
Gabrielle Thompson (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams) and
Maura Neely (Towson, Md./Maryvale Prep) opened the afternoon with a time of 2:25.42 in the 200 medley relay. Davis and Thompson also competed in the first individual event of the day along with junior
Abigail Granit (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township), as the trio competed in the 200 freestyle.

Aaron collected her win in the individual medley, and then was the top Maritime finisher in the 50 freestyle, as she netted a new personal-best time of 30.00. Neely was close to her career-best following Aaron, while junior
Gabrielle Kempski (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) was third for the Privateers. Thompson finished her afternoon with a time of 1:26.30 in the 100 butterfly; while Davis posted a 1:26.87.

Junior
Sarah Soulagnet (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Homeschooled) was Maritime's top finisher in the 100 freestyle with a 1:01.60, Soulagnet also paced the Privateers in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:21.62, Aaron and senior
Ashley O'Brien (Queens, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) were also entered in the event.

The next event was the 200 freestyle relay, which saw O'Brien, Neely, Alicea and Davis register a time of 2:14.91. Soulagnet's third individual event was the 100 backstroke, which saw her record a time of 1:14.61. Neely and O'Brien followed that up with times of 1:34.91 and 1:39.59 in the 100 breaststroke.

The final event of the meet for the women was the 400 freestyle relay, which saw O'Brien, Thompson, Aaron and Soulagnet pick up a time of 4:35.42 to close out the afternoon for the women's team.

In the opening 200 medley relay for the men's team, the quartet of junior
Andrew Katz (Greenlawn, N.Y./Glenn-Elwood), sophomore
Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) and freshmen
Ian Folan (Bethel, Conn./Notre Dame) and
Stephen Kelleher (Poughquag, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) posted a third place finish in the event with a time of 1:52.73.

Sophomore
Spencer Blass (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) continued his hot stretch of late as he posted a personal-best time of 1:57.31 in the 200 freestyle. Senior
Robert Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) was fifth in the event, while sophomore
Jesse Pierce (Broadway, Va./Broadway) was sixth. Freshman
Edwin Moriarty (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) was the top Maritime finisher in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.61. Freshman
Adam Durrua (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach) set a season-best time of 2:20.99 in the individual medley for the Privateers.

Senior
Sam Dratch (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) picked up a 24.65 in the 50 freestyle, just 0.35 seconds off of his personal best. Moriarty along with senior
Charles Schnebel (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and sophomore
Logan Riales (Bonham, Texas/Maury (Va.)) all competed in the 100 butterfly, with Schnebel as the lone entry with experience in the event at the collegiate level.

Katz led the Privateers in the 100 freestyle with a 53.82; followed by Durrua and Pierce in the event. In the men's 500 freestyle, sophomore
Tristan DeYoung (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) paced the Privateers with a 5:44.49, while sophomore
Francis Horne (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and junior
Nick Sherman (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) were also entered.

The Privateers had three entries in the 200 freestyle relay with the quartet of Folan, Dratch, Marino and sophomore
Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) leading the way for Maritime with a time of 1:36.00.

Marino set a personal-best in the backstroke with a 58.86 in the event as he finished second. Lewis was third with a 1:01.80, which was also a personal best for the senior during the 100 backstroke. Folan was Maritime's top finisher in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:06.06, while both he and Kelleher picked up points for the Privateers.

Finally, the Privateers had three entries in the 400 yard freestyle relay with the quartet of Blass, Kelleher, DeYoung and Katz pacing Maritime with a time of 3:35.95.

With the conclusion of the dual meet season the men's team finishes with a 9-2 overall record, while the women's team caps off its dual record at 7-7. The teams will close out the season in two weeks as the Privateers will take part in the Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
