Football Week 10 Preview: Maritime at Dean

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime football team will meet the Dean Bulldogs for the first time in program history on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Dale Lippert Field as the Privateers are on the hunt for their eighth win of the season.

Live Coverage: There will be both live stats and live video of the game on Saturday afternoon. The links for both the stats and video can be found at MaritimeAthletics.com/coverage.aspx

Series History: This is the first ever meeting between the Privateers and the Bulldogs. This is the first season for Dean in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference.

Kraetzer's Corner: Ken Kraetzer of Sons of the American Legion Radio previewed this weekend's conference opener with Coach Kendrick-Holmes. Check out this week's Preview Video on YouTube.

Weekly Award Winners: This week in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference, the Privateers had a pair of weekly award winners. Junior defensive back Karl Riek (Sweetwater, N.J./Cedar Creek) was named league special teams player of the week, while freshman Mike Maringelli (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) was named the league's rookie of the week.

One More Award: In addition to the conference weekly award, Riek was also named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III South Special Teams Player of the Week.

Nice to Meet You: Over the last three seasons Maritime has seen the additions of Maine Maritime, Alfred State and Dean to its regular season schedule. In its first-ever meeting against Maine Maritime, the Privateers won by a 30-0 score in 2015. Earlier this season Maritime welcomed Alfred State to its schedule with a 49-6 win on Reinhart Field. The Privateers will look to make it three straight wins against newcomers to its regular season slate.

The Great Eight: With a win on Saturday the Privateers will tie their second best win total in program history with its eighth victory. The 2011 team finished the season with an 8-2 mark. Maritime's highest win total in program history is 10, set a year prior during the 2010 season.

Safe and Secure: The Maritime defense has forced four safeties this season, which eclipses the previous season record of one. Last week, Riek forced the fourth safety for the Privateers with a blocked punt that went through the back of the end zone for the two-point score.

Twice as Nice: In terms of receiving yards the Privateers have nearly doubled up opponents in passing yards on offense. Through the first eight games of the year Maritime has amassed 2,296 passing yards, while opponents have only been able to muster 1,442 passing yards against the Maritime defense.

Around the ECFC:
Two games kick off at 12 p.m., followed by a pair at 1 p.m. in the ECFC this week. The weekend opens with Gallaudet visiting Castleton, while Alfred State travel to Husson at noon. Anna Maria and Mount Ida will kick off in Newton, Mass. at 1 p.m. along with Maritime and Dean.
