Football Week 6 Preview: Maritime at Husson

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime football team heads back on the road for the first time in three weeks as the Privateers make their longest trip of the season to Bangor, Maine for a matchup with the Husson Eagles at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the Winkin Sports Complex.

Series History: Husson has won nine of the 11 all-time matchups between the Privateers and the Eagles dating back to their first meeting in 2006. Husson has won the last five games including last year on Reinhart Field by the score of 33-12.
 
Week 5 Honors: Maritime is a perfect 4-for-4 as senior Matthew Murphy (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) has won all five of this season's Eastern Collegiate Football Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week honors as announced by the league on Monday. It was his fourth selection of the year, which ties the program record for individual honors in a season by the league.

National Ranking: For the first time this season the Maritime football team received one 25th place vote, for one point, in the American Football Coaches Association poll. The AFCA poll is one of two national polls recognized by the NCAA, with the other being D3football.com's weekly poll. Earlier this season Husson had 13 points in the poll released by the AFCA two weeks ago.
 
Top Offenses: The Maritime and Husson offenses are the top two in the ECFC. Maritime averages 497.0 yards per game, while Husson is second in the league as the Eagles average 359.8 yards per game. Maritime has the top passing offense with 1,208 yards, while Husson is the league's top rushing team at 909 total yards this season.
 
Smith vs. Smith: Last week Maritime wideout Curtis Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) spearheaded Maritime's offensive attack with 162 yards and one touchdown on seven catches, he is now second in the league in receiving yards per game with 63.8 behind only teammate Brandonn Drumgole (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) with 114.5 yards per game. On the other side of the field Husson running back John Smith led Husson's offense with 301 rushing yards and two scores.
 
Top-3 on D: Husson currently is rated as the top defense in the league yielding just 240.5 yards per game, Maritime is not far behind as the Privateer defensive unit has allowed 293.8 yards per game. Maritime's defense currently leads the league with 10 sacks and is one of just three teams in the league with at least one defensive touchdown.
 
Happy Trails: This is Maritime's last-ever visit to Husson as conference opponents, the Eagles will be departing the ECFC beginning in 2019 for the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Husson visits Reinhart Field one more time in 2018.
 
Around the ECFC: For the first time this season, all eight ECFC members are playing conference games on the same weekend. Dean meets Alfred State. in the battle of conference newcomers; Mount Ida visits Castleton and Anna Maria visits Gallaudet. All games this weekend start at 1 p.m.
