NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Maritime men's soccer team dropped a double-overtime decision to the Mount St. Mary Knights on Wednesday evening by the score of 1-0 on Kaplan Field.

The Knights scored the lone goal of the match in the fourth minute of the second overtime period to give the Privateers just their second conference loss in six Skyline matches. With the win Mount St. Mary stands alone in second place in the Skyline as jockeying for playoff position has already begun in the league, while Maritime falls to third place.

Maritime was outshot by just a slim 6-5 margin in the evenly matched contest, with the Knights holding a 4-2 lead in shots on goal. In goal sophomore
Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) made three saves on the evening.

In the first half the Privateers had three shots, with two on target as freshman
Anthony Palazzolo (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) had one shot in the opening 10 minutes, while sophomore
Justin Forrest (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) had an on-target shot that was also stopped in the 38th minute of play. The Privateers were held without a shot in the second period of regulation.

Freshman
Luis Jimenez (Newburgh, N.Y./Canterbury School (Conn.)) had two shots in the first overtime period, but neither were on frame as the two sides remained scoreless through the first 100 minutes of contested soccer.

The only shot of the second overtime period came from Mount St. Mary, who scored in the 104th minute of play on a cross into the box from the wing.
Maritime (10-3-1, 4-2-0 Skyline) will travel to Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon for another important road match against the Panthers at 12 p.m. from Panther Park.

Mount St. Mary (7-6-0, 5-1-0 Skyline) will be on the road as well this Saturday, when the Knights pay a visit to Farmingdale for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff on Long Island.
