THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - Maritime Rugby lost to Monroe in the final seconds of their second Tri-Conference League game this Sunday, 34-29.
Maritime sprinted ahead in the contest leading 17- 0 within the first 15 minutes of play. The Privateers dominated set play but in the opening phases of play Monroe found holes in which to score.
Maritime, scored first on its opening try. Owen Serbent ran the ball twice into the try zone and was the Privateer high-scorer.
Monroe came out strong the second half with several  consecutive scores and took the lead.
Captain's Ethan Cannon and Chris Motlenski answered back with their efforts each scoring tries, with Cannon kicking in two conversions.
Monroe's athleticism ruled the day scoring the go ahead try in the final moments of the match.
Maritime continues conference play away at Vassar on Sunday, October 2nd.
