Rugby: New Paltz 27, Maritime 22

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – In Maritime Rugby's home opener and debut in collegiate rugby, the team experienced a loss in the last seconds of the match with a score 27-22.
 
In what was an exciting and hard-contested match, the New Paltz Hawks dominated the first half with two tries (five points each).
 
In the latter minutes of the half, Andrew McHugh broke from the weak side and outran the opposition to score Maritimes first try.
 
The Privateers opened the second half with an outstanding display of teamwork and took the lead with Owen Serbent's try with Captain Ethan Cannon kicking the conversion for two points. Maritime was leading in the middle of the second half by a 12-10 score.
 
New Paltz came back to score and Maritime answered back with Corey Cummings rucking over to score another try as the Privateers maintained the lead at 17-15. Butto McCale finished the scoring for Maritime with his try in the latter stages of the second half.
 
The Hawks scored twice in the last few minutes of the match and came away as victors winning 27 -22.
 
Coach Wolf expressed his overall evaluation of Maritime's newest club and emphasized the commitment and character of Maritime Rugby.
 
Maritime plays host to Monroe College next Sunday, September 18 with a kickoff at 1:00 p.m.
