Women’s Lacrosse Unable to Hold Off Farmingdale in Second Half

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Lacrosse team returned to Skyline Conference action on Saturday afternoon, and held a 5-3 lead in the early stages of the second half, however the Farmingdale Rams went on to pick up six of the final seven goals of the game to emerge with a 9-6 victory.
 
Freshman Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) led the Privateers with four goals on the afternoon, while sophomore Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) and rookie Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) both added goals of their own. Senior Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and junior Jane Quinn (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) tallied assists in the contest as well.
 
Defensively freshman Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) led the team with four caused turnovers, while Quinn was second on the team with three, freshman Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) recorded two more caused turnovers and led the team on the afternoon with six ground balls.
 
Quinn led the team with two draw controls, while Pfundstein, Brady, Salatto, and sophomore Christa Case (Southington, Conn./Southington) all picked up one draw apiece.
 
Maritime was a perfect 2-for-2 on its free-position chances, with Deleva and Brady converting on each.
 
In goal, senior Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) picked up six saves, including five in the second half to keep the Privateers close throughout the entirety of the contest.
 
Maritime took an early 1-0 lead as Pfundstein scored off a pass from Quinn just 50 seconds into the contest. Farmingdale took a 2-1 lead, but Maritime answered right back as Deleva scored her first of the game coming off a pass from Reynolds.
 
After Farmingdale moved ahead by a 3-2 score with 11:27 left in the opening half, Maritime recorded the next two markers as Deleva scored with 4:04 left and then again on a free-position shot with 1:25 to go in the first half to put the Privateers back on top at 4-3.
 
To open the second half, Deleva scored her third-straight marker with 26:18 to go in the game as Maritime had a two-goal advantage for the first time on the day. Farmingdale scored the next five goals to take an 8-5 lead with 6:41 left in regulation.
 
Brady converted on a free-position chance with 4:39 left in the game, but it was not enough for the Privateers. Farmingdale scored just over a minute later to finish off the scoring on the afternoon at 9-6.
 
While Maritime held the team lead in ground balls and turned the ball over fewer times than the Rams, the Rams had a 23-17 shot advantage while winning 11-of-17 draws. The Privateers did struggle in their clear chances, converting on just 13-of-26, while Farmingdale was 14-of-17.
 
Maritime (3-5, 1-2 Skyline) will return home on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. when the Privateers play host to the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins on Reinhart Field.
 
Farmingdale (4-8, 3-0 Skyline) will look to help its positioning in the Skyline Conference standings as the team will next battle will fellow unbeaten league foe St. Joseph's (LI) in Patchogue on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
