Women’s Lacrosse Coasts to Senior Day Win over Mount St. Vincent

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Lacrosse team scored a 13-4 victory over the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins on Wednesday evening, as the team picked up a Skyline Conference Victory on Reinhart Field.
 
Prior to the game, Maritime honored the six members of the team, who are playing in their final seasons at Maritime. Seniors Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego), Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)), Kelsey Ireland (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive), Christina Finnen (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity), and Jill Raimo (Islip, N.Y./Islip) were all recognized prior to the start of the contest.
 
As for the game, Maritime was led by freshman Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place), who recorded four goals and three assists for a team-high seven points on the game. Classmate Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) added three goals, while junior Jane Quinn (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) also had three points with two goals and one assist.
 
Sophomore Andrea Mitchell (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) also added a pair of goals, while Raimo tallied a goal and an assist. Sophomore Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) registered a goal in the win, while Ireland and Reynolds both added solo assists in the contest.
 
Defensively Pfundstein and classmate Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) both recorded four caused turnovers apiece, while Paczkowski and Quinn both recorded two. Quinn led the Privateers with four ground balls, while Pfundstein and Salatto both had three apiece.
 
Quinn, Brady and Deleva all led Maritime with two draw controls each in the win.
 
In goal, Paczkowski made eight saves en route to her 10th career victory.
 
Maritime started quickly as Quinn scored her 14th of the season with just over seven minutes gone by. Mount St. Vincent tied the game at one, but Deleva and Pfundstein picked up back-to-back goals to put Maritime ahead by a 3-1 score.
 
After the Dolphins scored their second goal of the game, Maritime responded with a pair as Quinn and Mitchell added goals. Mount St. Vincent scored with 3:48 left in the half, but Maritime closed out the period as Deleva scored her second of the game and 25th of the season to give the Privateers a 6-3 halftime lead.
 
The Privateers scored the first three goals out of the gate in the second half as Brady tallied her third of the season, followed by goals from Pfundstein and Raimo. Ireland, Reynolds and Quinn all assisted on the goals to put Maritime ahead by a 9-3 score. Mount St. Vincent scored next to make the game a five-goal contest.
 
The Privateers closed out the game with four goals in the final 18:40 as Deleva scored twice, while Pfundstein and Mitchell also scored to close out the game.
 
Maritime held a 31-14 shot advantage with 26 of those on target. The Dolphins turned the ball over 20 times, while the Privateers gave the ball away 15 times. Maritime was 16-for-18 on clear chances, while Mount St. Vincent was 12-for-16. Ground balls were also in favor of the Privateers at a 24-16 difference.
 
Maritime (4-6, 2-2 Skyline) recorded it's first-ever win against the Dolphins, the team they met in their inaugural contest in 2007. The team will look ahead to Saturday on Long Island as the team will travel to Old Westbury for a league matchup with the Panthers beginning at 11:30 a.m.
 
Mount St. Vincent (0-10, 0-4 Skyline) will look to put an end to its winless season on Saturday, when the team travels north to take on Sage for a league battle beginning at 4:30 p.m.
