Women’s Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Decision to SUNY Polytechnic

MARCY, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Lacrosse team was back on the road on Wednesday evening, as the Privateers fell to the SUNY Polytechnic Wildcats by an 18-2 score at Wildcat Field.
 
Freshman Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) scored the final goal of the first half, while sophomore Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) capped off the scoring with the final goal of the second half in the effort. Deleva also had an assist on Brady's goal.
 
The Privateers had 10 draw controls on the game as freshman Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) led the way with four draws on the game. Deleva and freshman Catherine Pfundstein (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) each added two, while sophomore Andrea Mitchell (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) added the only other draw control.
 
Salatto also led the team with three caused turnovers and had a pair of ground balls on the game. Freshman Ciara Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) forced two turnovers, while adding one ground ball. Junior Christina Finnen (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) was the only other Privateer with multiple ground balls on the game as she added a pair.
 
In goal, Finnen stopped four shots and allowed the first 15 Wildcat tallies through the first 49:46 of the contest. Senior Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), who started at attack, finished the game in goal as she played the final 10:14 of regulation.
 
SUNY Polytechnic scored the opening 11 goals of the first half, followed by Deleva adding a free-position goal with 23 seconds left in the opening stanza.
 
After the break, the Wildcats added seven more goals to take an 18-1 lead. With 2:31 left in regulation, Brady collected her first goal of the season in her first game of the year as she took a pass from Deleva.
 
Maritime (2-3) will look to rebound in its Skyline Conference opener on Saturday, April 2 from Reinhart Field at 1 p.m.
 
SUNY Polytechnic (3-0) will look to extend its winning streak on Wednesday, March 30, when the team hosts Utica at 5:00 p.m. from Wildcat Field.
