Through the first five minutes of the contest, St. Joseph's (Bklyn) took a 10-5 lead, but Hoch answered with a three-pointer and a layup to even the game at 10. The Privateers took a brief lead on a pair of free throws from Halligan, but the Bears took back the lead and enlarged it to 29-16.

Walker got Maritime back on track with a pair from the stripe, and made the most off a turnover with a three-point ball. Hayes then connected on a layup, followed by layups from MacDonald and Spruill to pull Maritime back within two at 29-27.

St. Joseph's (Bklyn) held their lead through the remainder of the half and took a 40-36 advantage into the halftime break. The Privateers shot 48% from the field in the opening half, but the Bears held the advantage in second chance points, fouls and turnovers to create the differential.

Maritime was still within four with 16:16 left in regulation as MacDonald converted on a layup. MacDonald scored the next two points with a pair from the stripe to trim the deficit to a bucket, but the Bears responded with a quick three-pointer to regain a five-point lead with 14:35 left on the clock.
