THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime rugby team clinched the Tri-State Rugby Conference playoff berth with their convincing 35-8 win over Oneonta on Sunday.
 
With a balanced kicking, forward and wing attacks, the team scored within the first few minutes of the opening whistle and never looked back.
 
Scoring for Maritime were senior William McDermott (Lexington Park, Md.), freshman John Curley (Tampa, Fla.), sophomore Owen Serbert, junior Corey Cummings (Montgomery, N.Y.) and senior Christopher Mottlenski.
 
 Coach Bob Wolf was proud of the defense and how they held the line throughout the match.  Offensively, Maritime balanced their play with forwards and wing working harmoniously. It was the best played game of the year. Every member touched the ball in support.
 
Next weekend Maritime plays at New Paltz in the semifinals of the Tri-State Rugby Conference Tournament.
