THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime men's soccer team picked up a key Skyline Conference victory on Saturday afternoon, as the team knocked off the Purchase Panthers by the score of 2-0 ono Reinhart Field.

Prior to the matchup, the team recognized the members of the senior class as
Kieran Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac),
Andrew Barry (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz),
Kevin Ferreira (Centereach, N.Y./St. John the Baptist),
John Nothacker (Philadelphia, Pa./Homeschooled),
Demetri Geras (New York, N.Y./School of the Future), and
Matthew Pavek (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) were all honored in a brief on-field ceremony.

As for the game, the Privateers got second half goals from sophomore
Parker Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and freshman
Justin Forrest (Lusby, Md./Patuxent), as the team scored twice in a seven minute span to help seal the victory.

In goal, freshman
Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) was forced to stop four shots as he registered his fourth clean sheet of the season.

Maritime had its chances throughout the contest as the team tallied 14 shots overall with five on target. In addition to Gallt and Forrest, who both put shots on goal, the Privateers also had a pair of shots on goal from Ferreira and one more from freshman
Thomas Langkafel (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel).

Both sides had early chances in the opening stages of the first half, as the Panthers recorded the first shot on goal but were denied by Rodriguez. Following a corner kick by Gallt, which initially rang off the post, Ferreira headed the loose ball towards the goal but was stopped as the game remained scoreless.

Later in the period, Ferreira had another shot denied, followed by another corner kick by Gallt, which hit off the post. Langkafel added his shot on goal in the final minute of the first half but the ball was stopped once again by the Purchase goalkeeper.

As play moved into the second half, and into the 64th minute, Gallt took a strong shot towards goal that knuckled on the goalkeeper and beat the netminder as Maritime took the 1-0 lead. For Gallt, it was his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Six minutes later, the Privateers threatened again as sophomore
Joe Merendino (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) found an open Forrest near the left post, who banged home the goal to put Maritime up by a pair.

Both sides were unable to get any steady offensive chances through the final 20 minutes of play, as the Privateers hung on for the 2-0 victory.

Final shots were 14-8 in favor of Maritime, while corner kicks were 12-3 with the Privateers leading. The Panthers were called offsides on two occasions, while Maritime was whistled offsides just once.

Maritime (8-10-0, 4-6-0 Skyline) will play its final game of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon, when the team travels to Mount St. Vincent for a 4 p.m. start against the Dolphins at the Athletic Field at Marillac.

Purchase (1-13-1, 1-8-1 Skyline) will host Mount St. Mary on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in Westchester County.
