Men’s Soccer Stunned in Final Minutes by Farmingdale in 2-0 Loss

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime men's soccer team played at home on Wednesday evening against the Farmingdale Rams, and fell by the score of 2-0 on Reinhart Field.

The Rams got both of their goals in the final five minutes of play, as both teams played to a scoreless tie through the initial 84:56 of the match.

In goal for the Privateers, freshman Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) tallied eight saves while yielding the two Farmingdale goals through the entirety of the match.

Through the initial 45 minutes of play, Farmingdale was able to get shots off but very few quality chances with just one shot on target through the half.

In the second half, Rodriguez was tasked to make seven saves including a few diving grabs to keep the Rams off the board.

As the game seemed destined for overtime with less than five minutes remaining in the match, the Rams got on the board first with a goal towards the top left corner of the net that was beyond the reach of Rodriguez.

Less than a minute later, Farmingdale took advantage of a corner kick that was played towards the near post. Maritime attempted to clear but was unable to as the ball rattled around and was sent into the goal to make it 2-0 in favor of the Rams.

Maritime (6-8-0, 2-5-0 Skyline) will look to get back on track on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., when the team travels to take on St. Joseph's (Bklyn). The match will be played at the College of Staten Island, on Staten Island, N.Y.

Farmingdale (7-5-0, 6-1-0 Skyline) will be back in action against Merchant Marine on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at home in Farmingdale, N.Y.
