DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Maritime Volleyball team took to the road on Monday evening for a non-conference matchup with the Delaware Valley Aggies from the James Work Gymnasium.

The Privateers took the matchup in three sets by the scores of 26-16, 25-11, and 25-22 to even their overall record at 7-7 on the season.

Maritime was led by junior
Carly Lombardo (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) with eight kills, followed by freshman
Meredith Hayes (Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) with seven and sophomore
Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) with six. Lombardo led the team with four service aces, as Brady followed close behind with three of her own.

Junior
Erika Bailey (Newark Valley, N.Y./Tioga Central) added a match-high 19 assists, while Lombardo led the team in blocks with two. Brady led all defenders with 20 digs, as senior
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) was second on the team with nine.

In the opening set, Maritime controlled the majority of the play and opened up a 19-11 lead. The Aggies closed the gap to make it 19-16, but the Privateers closed out the set with six unanswered to take a 1-0 lead on the night.

The second set saw Maritime dominate throughout, closing out the set by a 25-11 score. The highlight of the period was four straight service aces by Lombardo to propel the Privateers forward.

Maritime took an early lead in the third set, but Delaware Valley evened up the contest by a 5-5 score. Eventually Maritime had built up a 22-17 lead, but the Aggies refused to go down quietly and pulled to within one at 23-22.

Delaware Valley collected a hitting error to make the score 24-22 in favor of Maritime, followed by a cross-court error by the Aggies on an attack to give the Privateers their seventh win of the season.

Maritime (7-7, 2-2 Skyline) will return home on Friday evening to kick off homecoming festivities with a 5 p.m. matchup against the Staten Island Dolphins from the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.

Delaware Valley (1-7, 0-2 MAC Freedom) will return to conference play on Wednesday, as the team plays host to the Wilkes Colonels at 7 p.m.
