Â
Maritime stormed out of the gates in the second set, with an early 8-4 advantage. After a pair of points by Old Westbury, Acklin and Lombardo propelled the Privateers all the way to an 18-6 advantage. During the run, Lombardo had four service aces.

Old Westbury responded with three points, but Brady and Lombardo finished off the second set win for Maritime with back-to-back kills.
Â
In the third set, Maritime fell behind 4-1 but answered with kills from Brady, Lombardo, and a service ace from Brady to even the set at four. Freshman
Isabella Kent (Narrowsburg, N.Y./Sullivan West), senior
Meghan Burke (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) and three service aces from Hayes launched Maritime to a 12-5 advantage.
Â
The Panthers fought back and pulled to the match to an 18-12 score, but the Privateers closed out the match in convincing fashion with seven straight points to seal the victory for Maritime.
Â
In the opening matchup of the day for Maritime, the Privateers faced off with the team that ended its season a year ago. In a rematch with the Mount St. Mary Knights from last season's Skyline quarterfinals, the Knights prevailed once again as they took the match in straight sets.
Â
Hayes led the team with six kills, while Bailey had 14 assists; Lombardo led with five service aces, while Brady held the team-lead with nine digs.
Â
In the opener, Maritime fell behind 7-2 and Mount St. Mary kept the Privateers at a distance en route to a 25-13 set win. The Knights jumped out to a 9-3 advantage, which proved to be too great a difference for Maritime to escape, falling in the set by a 25-16 score.
Â
The third set once again saw the Privateers fall behind early and unable to come from behind. Mount St. Mary surged to a 12-2 lead and did not look back as the Knights cruised to the set and match victory.
Â
Maritime (6-7, 2-2 Skyline) will play again on Monday evening when the team travels to Doylestown, Pa. to take on Delaware Valley for a 7 p.m. start against the Aggies.
Â
Mount St. Mary (3-14, 2-0 Skyline) will host Medgar Evers on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Old Westbury (3-5, 1-2 Skyline) will host York (NY) on Wednesday evening as well at 7 p.m.
