Privateers Drop Hard-Fought Friday Night Matchup against Sage

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Soccer team lost a tightly contested match to Sage 1-0 on Friday evening on Reinhart Field. The goal was scored on a penalty kick attempt in the 67th minute.

The Privateers totaled six shots, including five in the second half, but the team was unable to break through to tie the game. Seniors Kevin Ferriera, Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)), Sheick Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly for Math & Science) all tallied one shot on goal. Freshman Billy Horgan (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) also registered a shot on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) had another strong performance with seven saves, only allowing the one penalty goal. The Maritime defense was led by senior Brian McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) and freshman Jack Feehan (Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale). In addition to his defense, Feehan created multiple scoring chances from his long-distance throw-ins.

Maritime's best chance to score came on in the first half, during the sixth minute, when Horgan picked up a loose ball in the box and shot to his left but his shot was saved.

Peter Fabrykiewicz scored the lone goal for Sage, who improved to 5-2-1, 1-0-1 in Skyline play. The Privateers fell to 6-3-0, 1-1-0 with Friday night's loss.

The Privateers will look to get back on the winning track next Tuesday at Mount St. Mary at 7 p.m. in Newburgh, N.Y.
