POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Soccer team got its season started on Tuesday evening with a loss to the Vassar Brewers, by the score of 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon on Gordon Field.
In goal, senior
Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) led the team with five save on the match. Senior
Sheick Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly for Math & Science) led the team with three shots on the contest, while classmate
Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)) added a pair of his own.
Also registering shots were seniors
Kevin Ferreira (Centereach, N.Y./St. John the Baptist),
Colton Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), and
Brian McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill), while rookies
Parker Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and
Billy Horgan (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) also recorded the first shots of their respective careers.
Vassar jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the 15th minute of play, while adding another tally just minutes later. The Brewers added two more strikes in the half to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Vassar capped off their scoring with a goal in the 57th minute to seal the win for the home squad.
Maritime returns home to Reinhart Field on Saturday evening when the team hosts the City College of NY Beavers for a 6 p.m. match to open its home slate of contests. The home game will be the first of five straight matches from the friendly confines of Reinhart Field for the men's soccer squad.
