Privateers Stun Beavers with Three Second Half Goals

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – After falling behind by a 3-1 score at the halftime break, the Maritime Men's Soccer team came back with three unanswered goals to complete the comeback to stun the City College of New York Beavers on Saturday evening on Reinhart Field.

Maritime got two goals from senior Colton Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South), while freshman Parker Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) also scored his first career goal. Sophomore Brett Reilly (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) scored what proved to be the game-winning marker in the 88th minute to complete the comeback and give the Privateers their first win of the season.

In goal, senior Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport) made three saves in the winning effort, as the Long Island native recorded his 17th career win, tying him third on the modern-day wins list.

The Beavers jumped on the board first with two quick goals in the first 17 minutes of the match. C. Gallt then answered back off a corner kick with his brother Parker getting the assist as well as senior Renato Chira-Farfan (Miraflores, Peru/Mahopac (N.Y.)), who had taken the original kick.

City College responded just minutes later to regain its two-goal advantage at 3-1 heading into the halftime break.

In the 75th minute, Parker matched his brother with his first goal of the season, while freshman Billy Horgan (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) tallied his first career point with an assist on a long crossing pass into the box. Colton regained the family lead in goals with his second of the night, as he received a pass from Parker on a sharp-angle shot to even the match at three with less than five to go in regulation.

With just 2:35 remaining in the contest, the Privateers went with an aggressive lineup and sent Reilly to the front line. The move paid off as Reilly headed the ball past the Beaver goalkeeper to put Maritime ahead by one for its first lead of the night.

The remaining time ticked off the clock, as Maritime had capped off the perfect day on Reinhart Field following the football team's victory earlier in the day.

Team stats saw Maritime outshoot its guests by a 19-13 margin, including an 11-4 advantage in the second half. Corner kicks were also in favor of Maritime at a 5-1 difference, while both teams were even on offsides at one apiece.

Maritime (1-1, 0-0 Skyline) will look to stay on a good run, when the team welcomes in the Merchant Marine Mariners on Wednesday evening with the game kicking off at 7 p.m. on Reinhart Field. City College of New York (1-1, 0-0 CUNYAC) will take on New York University in its next contest, which takes place on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
